Drug-Resistant “Nightmare Bacteria” Are Quickly Spreading Through U.S. Hospitals

An antibiotic resistant bacteria, CSE, is rapidly spreading through hospitals across the United States, infecting 9,000 and killing 600 people per year. The spread of the superbug is difficult to track as individuals who contract it and spread it are often asymptomatic.

Genetic Idiocracy? Genes Associated With High Education Are Becoming Rarer

In a study of data from 129,808 people over an 80-year span, researchers found that the genome sequence variations linked to higher education are becoming rarer in the population. Despite the decrease in these genetic factors in the gene pool, education levels continue to increase, showing that genetics are not the only factor at play.

China Takes Serious Anti-Coal Stance, Cancelling 104 New Coal Plants

China is shutting down 104 coal-fired projects across 13 provinces, which were expected to deliver a total of 120 gigawatts of power. With this change, it might be possible for the world’s biggest industrial nation to meet its target of limiting coal-fired power generation to 1,100 gigawatts by 2020.
