We Were Just Thrust Into a New Age in Astronomy

It was originally understood that our universe harbored two hundred billion galaxies – but this estimate was wrong – it contains two trillion. In 2018, NASA plans to launch the James Webb Space telescope, a much more powerful successor to the Hubble, which could tell us even more about the distant reaches of our universe.

New Research Points to a Genetic Switch That Can Let Our Bodies Talk to Electronics

Our bodies are biologically based and therefore are not equipped to communicate with electronics efficiently. New research could make it possible to genetically engineer our cells to be able to communicate with electronics. The development has the potential to allow us to eventually build apps that autonomously detect and treat disease.

More People Are Employed by Solar Power Than All Fossil Fuels Combined

A new U.S. jobs report shows that solar energy employed 374,000 people from 2015 to 2016, while all of the fossil fuels combined only accounted for 187,117 employees. This growth for solar, the cheapest source of new energy, is good news for both the environment and those interested in making and saving money in the energy sector.

Watch 136 Years of Climate Change in New NASA Video

NASA has released a new video that illustrates global climate change over the course of 136 years, making clear the Earth's trajectory toward ever-increasing temperatures. Should this warming trend persist, we will continue to see the effect on the environment via animal and plant extinction events, oxygen-depleted oceans, and dying rainforests.
