Scientists don't yet understand what caused the 1.2 ± 0.1 millinewtons per kilowatt recorded thrust-to-power ratio in NASA's EM Drive paper. Brice Cassenti, an advanced propulsion systems expert from the University of Connecticut, points out that the thrust reported in the paper might have actually been an artifact.

Research out of the University of Surrey has found battery alternative material, or supercapacitor, that is 1,000 - 10,000 times more powerful than traditional batteries. These supercapacitors could provide the boost electric vehicles need to break into the mainstream since they will be able to perform at lengths comparable to gas powered cars.
